Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is a process that promotes the coordinated development and management of water, land, and related resources to maximize economic and social welfare equitably without compromising the sustainability of vital ecosystems.
It ensures the integration and harmonization of all government efforts and regulatory activities to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water resources in the whole country.
The Integrated Water Resource Management Plan (IWMP) endeavors to harmonize major water sector plans and strategies toward a common and concerted water security agenda. Moreover, it serves as an Action Plan which not only lists priority plans and programs but also indicates a strict timeline and identifies the responsible implementing parties.
The IWMP puts the IWRM framework into action. Its goal is to bring together efforts and resources to implement key reform areas and action plans, aiming to achieve the country’s water security objectives. It considers water as an economic and common good, and guides effective governance in water resource management by following the principles of inclusivity and equity, transparency and accountability, science and evidence-based data, and coherence.
