Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) OIC Secretary Jim O. Sampulna asserts the DENR will accelerate actions towards the sustainable development of the country’s environment and natural resources through the continued implementation of the agency’s 10 priority programs. These include improving Manila Bay’s water quality and completing the beach nourishment project, increasing sanitary landfills, and managing motor vehicle and industrial emissions. It shall also pursue protecting the country’s 8.7 million hectares of forests, preserving protected areas and biodiversity, addressing climate change, ensuring responsible mining, and shall replicate the Boracay Island rehabilitation in other prime ecotourism sites, among others. Sampulna held a media briefing at the DENR Central Office on February 28.###
