Dr. Esteven Toledo, resident veterinarian of Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB), assesses the health condition of 40 turtles rescued by the Philippine Operations Group on Ivory and Illegal Wildlife Trade or Task Force POGI from suspects, Eumir Rommel Raganit and Bruce Kenneth Tan, during its buy-bust operation on July 10 in Tondo, Manila. Dr. Toledo, in identifying their species and their conservation status, found out that some are black pond turtles (Geoclemys hamiltonii), which are critically endangered species. The turtles are now under the proper care and treatment of BMB Wildlife Rescue Center. ###
