Wildlife officers from the Philippines and Indonesia show the turnover documents for the repatriation of 73 smuggled birds that were rescued from an illegal wildlife trader in Pasay City in March 2018. The birds, all endangered species, were under the care of the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for over five years before they were finally repatriated to Indonesia on October 18, 2023 under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The repatriation was led by DENR-BMB Assistant Director Armida Andres (3rd from left) and Indra Exploitasia, Acting Director for Biodiversity Conservation Species and Genetic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry (3rd from right). The team also included (from left) BMB-Wildlife Resources Division Chief Anson Tagtag, BMB-Wildlife Enforcement Officer Dr. Esteven Toledo, and Dodo Sudradjat, Deputy Chief of Mission, and Avi Dewani Sari Harahap, Head of the Social and Cultural Section, both of the Indonesian Embassy in Manila.###
