Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga (right) meets with Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, and head of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Mami Mizutori (left) on the sidelines of the 27th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt on November 8. Loyzaga, as head of the Philippine delegation to COP27, discussed the priorities of the Philippines and developments in national efforts to address climate change and develop national resilience. Mizutori shared how UNDRR can provide support to some of the key challenges on building capacity, creating coherence, and synergy among government institutions and stakeholders at both national and local government levels. During the meeting, best practices in the delivery of disaster preparedness and response services, as well as recommendations for strengthening the Philippines’ overall disaster risk management through the integration of climate change adaptation efforts with disaster risk prevention, recovery and rehabilitation were also discussed. ###
