Environment Secretary Antonia Loyzaga shared the Philippines’ current action plans to ensure food security in the country at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Ministerial Dialogue and Breakfast on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly last September 19 in New York City. Loyzaga shared the vital role of science in coming up with climate projections for anticipatory planning of food systems and security, and with other country representatives, further discussed food security, nutrition, and efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems as critical to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. With the theme, ”Scaling Up Action and Investment for an Integrated Biodiversity-Climate-Food Nexus Approach,” the dialogue was an opportunity for member states and other stakeholders to discuss the many ways in which prioritizing agrifood systems transformations can widely contribute to end poverty, improve health and education outcomes, empower women, ensure the optimized use of natural resources as well as sustainable consumption and production, create decent jobs and livelihood opportunities, reduce inequalities and rural-urban disparities, and tackle climate crisis and biodiversity loss.
