The Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) of the municipality of Teresa in Rizal province, one of the local government units recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for its Solid Waste Management Program (SWMP) produces charcoal briquettes (inset above) from discarded papers which can be used as alternative fuel. Aside from charcoal briquettes, the MRF produces organic fertilizers from biodegradable wastes that are shredded, cured, and mixed with bio-enzymes.
