Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu (left) and Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) Director Henry Adornado (beside Cimatu) lead the planting of the nilad mangrove (inset) during the launch of the “Nilad for Maynila” project at BASECO lagoon on Dec. 29. The project, in partnership with the Manila City government, is in line with the rehabilitation of Manila Bay and the re-greening of the city’s coast through the planting of nilad. The name Manila was derived from the nilad plant which used to thrive in the city.###
