Calamba City, Laguna – An alternative way of celebrating Valentine’s day was introduced by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through its Forest Management Bureau. The initiative, dubbed the Tree Hugging Campaign, originated with the Chipko Movement in the 1970s, which emphasizes the interdependence of humans and the environment.
The DENR CALABARZON, led by Regional Executive Director Nilo B. Tamoria, together with its Assistant Regional Directors, Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers, has shown their solidarity by hugging native trees in various locations.
The tree-hugging initiative is a five-day campaign, from February 14-18, that aims to promote social as well as possible health benefits from nurturing our forest and the environment. It also aims to raise awareness of the tree-hugging movement, as well as introduce an alternative way on spending Valentine’s day.
Hug a tree today!
