Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu lauds the accomplishments of the government’s solid waste management program particularly the closure of 100% of all 335 illegally operating dumpsites in the country early this year. In his keynote speech during the launch of the DENR Solid Waste Management Advocacy Campaign last month, Cimatu reported the construction of more sanitary landfills and the establishment of materials recovery facilities through the assistance of the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) chaired by the DENR. The Commission has also successfully created the interim guidelines on the management of COVID-19-related healthcare wastes, banned the use of unnecessary single-use plastics in government offices, and integrated the Total Solid Waste Management Solution in the operation of new sanitary landfills.###
