Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary for Solid Waste Management and Local Government Units (LGU) Concerns and National Solid Waste Management Commission Alternate Chair Benny D. Antiporda underscores the intensified support of the DENR to LGUs nationwide in their compliance to Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 during the 21st anniversary celebration of the enactment of the law on February 2, 2022. These include the expedited approval of 10-year solid waste management plans, closure of open dumpsites and establishment of sanitary landfills, and the distribution of biowaste shredders and composters to towns and cities. Under RA 9003, LGUs are primarily responsible for the effective and efficient solid waste management, particularly on garbage segregation and disposal. ###
