The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) expressed optimism that the 4th Philippine Environment Summit slated for Feb. 21-23 will help accelerate collaborative solutions by public and private partners to address climate change and ecological destruction and contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
Organized by Green Convergence for Safe Food, Healthy Environment, and Sustainable Economy in partnership with the DENR, the event aims to serve as a venue to enhance multisectoral environmental efforts by sharing insights and best practices and foster convergence in the academe, business, local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations, and youth sectors.
With the theme “Caring for Earth: Scaling up Solutions to the Climate Emergency,” the three-day event will be held in Tagaytay City.
Day 1 of the summit will have plenary and parallel sessions discussing the Quantification of Institutional Carbon Footprint; LGU Programs that Mitigate Climate Change; Corals and Mangrove Ecosystems as Carbon Sinks; and Substitutes for Fossil Fuels.
Day 2 sessions include Conserving Mineral and Biological Resources to Minimize Fossil Fuel Use for Extraction, Manufacture and Damage Control; Alternative Technologies that Lower Energy Use; Initiatives of Communities Towards Environmental Protection; and Environmental Programs that Involve and Empower the Youth.
Day 3 will have discussions on Developing Native Products and Systems; Business to Address Greenhouse Gas Emissions; Innovative Strategies to Effectively Communicate the Climate Emergency; and Programs that Highlight Key Ecosystems that Can Mitigate Climate Change.
The Summit also aims to generate knowledge, encourage wider adoption of breakthroughs and innovations in various sectors of society and outline recommendations on food safety, environment and natural resources protection and conservation, and sustainable economy.
The event will showcase exhibits featuring environmental programs from various organizations.
The Philippine Environment Summit is a biennial commemoration of the Philippine environmental movement that started in 2016. It urges the government and the people of the Philippines to work together to accelerate the transition to sustainable development. ###
