Berthed barges and water hyacinths along the Pasig River are pollutants as well as eyesores and contribute to the historical river’s poor water quality and navigability. In his technical inspection of the Pasig River on Sept. 24, 2019, Environment Secretary said the river should not be used as a berth of barges that load or unload products or raw materials from factories along the riverbank. The proliferation of water hyacinths is being managed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority through the installation of trash traps at the mouth of the river.###
