With levels of fine particle air pollutants down to acceptable levels, Metro Manila enjoys clearer skies and better quality outdoor air or ambient air. A report from the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources recorded a drop of almost 50 percent in the level of particulate matter (PM)2.5 following the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine on March 17 as a preventive measure against the spread of COVID-19. PM2.5 are fine particles that stay longer in the air, travel farther and enter the body’s airways which may lead to diseases of the heart and lungs.
