Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Protection and Enforcement Task Force (DENR-EPETF) Executive Director Nilo Tamoria (left) with Dr. Stephen Toledo (right) of the DENR-Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) conduct a detailed documentation of the P3.2 million worth of agarwood seized in a twin-buy bust operation in two shopping malls in Cainta and Pasig City last June 8 with the National Bureau of Investigation-Environmental Crime Division (NBI-ECD). The operation resulted in the confiscation of 20 kilos of agarwood trunk and chips (right photo) and the arrest of four Mindanao-based traders, who are now detained at the NBI Detention Center. The poaching and illegal trade of agarwood has caused the continuous population decline of threatened tree species, lanete and lapnisan in the country, prompting the DENR to ban its cutting.##
