Lopez welcomes members of the press in the gathering of DENR beat reporters dubbed as "Meet the Beat" on July 27 in Bulwagan Ninoy at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center, Quezon City.  Lopez said she plans to meet with the group weekly to give them updates on her projects and inform them of her plans. ###

Environment Secretary Gina L. Lopez explains to the media that the audit of all mining companies is proof that they are given a chance to shape up before sanctions are imposed. Last July 8, Lopez issued DENR Memorandum Order No. 2016-01 directing a comprehensive review of all operating mines, including those under suspended and/or care and maintenance status. ###

The Environmental Management Bureau, a line agency under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has launched its first “solar project” on Wednesday (June 29, 2016) with former DENR Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje (inset, left) gracing the occasion along with Philippine National Oil Corp. Vice President Pedro Lite, Jr. and DENR Assistant Secretary Atty. Juan Miguel Cuna.  The solar panels, installed at the EMB Environmental Research and Laboratory Services Division building in partnership with PNOC, is expected to generate approximately 140,000 kWh of electricity per year or a savings of around P1.4 million per annum. ###

Handing the plaque are former DENR Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje (2nd from left), and former Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno, representing the Environmental Heroes Foundation, Inc., and Fr. Pablito S. Malibiran, representing former Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales. The awarding was done in simple ceremonies held at the DENR Social Hall on June 29, 2016. ###

Fr. Pablito C. Malibiran, representing former Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, presents a plaque of recognition for environmental heroes to Mrs. Emelyn Diez (center) and daughter Josephine at the DENR Social Hall on June 29, 2016. The women survive Jaime Diez, a former tree marker of CENRO Bayugan, Agusan del Sur, who was gunned down due to his vital  contribution leading to the confiscation of P2.46 million worth of logs at the Ojot Monitoring Station. The award, along with some financial assistance, is courtesy of the Environmental Heroes Foundation, Inc., chaired by former Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno (left).  Also in photo is former DENR Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje (2nd from right) hands over a plaque of recognition to Ivy Sheila and Golda, daughters of the late Wilfredo Bayucot during awarding ceremonies for environmental heroes at the DENR Social Hall on June 29, 2016. Bayucot was a former forest ranger from CENRO Bayugan, Agusan del Sur, who was killed after pursuing an Isuzu Elf loaded with illegally-transported Gmelina lumber in 2003. Bayucot, who was on-board his motorcycle when bumped by the truck, died three days later the incident.  Also in photo is Fr. Pablito Malibiran, representative of former Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales. ###
